Local high school basketball teams are hoping their spots hold in the Heal Point Standings as they prepare for the Eastern Maine Basketball Tournament Feb. 17-25 in Bangor.
The last countable game is Friday, with girls’ preliminary games scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 14, while the boys’ playoffs will be Wednesday, Feb. 15.
The Houlton Lady Shires are currently in 5th place in Class C and if they win Thursday night against Mattanawcook Academy, they will likely play Stearns in the quarterfinals. If the Houlton girls lose, a prelim game would be in the cards.
The Houlton Shires are ranked seventh as of Tuesday in the Class C boys’ division, hoping to hold that spot for a home preliminary game on Wednesday, Feb. 15.
The Hodgdon Hawks could go into the tourney as high as the fifth seed, or they may stay in sixth, depending on the outcome of their Thursday game with GHCA, a team they very well could face in the postseason. The Eagles are 11th in the current Heal Points or they could move up in the bracket.
Katahdin Cougars are ranked fourth and will play a home prelim game against the No. 12 seed, currently Penobscot Valley.
The Lady Hawks should stay in seventh in Class D, setting up a home playoff game on Tuesday, Feb. 14.
The Southern Aroostook girls are on the bubble in Class D in 15th place. If they stay in 15th, they would play the No. 2 seed.
