A Caribou man just missed out on the big prize in the seventh annual Long Lake Ice Fishing Derby held on Jan. 28-29.
Jim Bouchard finished second in the salmon category with his six pound, one-point-four ounce catch. That was good for second place and a $750 prize.
First prize of $1,500 and a trophy went to Jason Castonguay of Wallagrass who landed a six pound, nine ounce salmon.
Another Caribou man, Justin Ouellette, picked up the “booby” prize by catching the most perch. It did come with a $75 award and trophy.
According to event organizer Paul Bernier, this year 601 people registered, a new record for the two-day derby and $5,000 was raised for the Edgar J. Paradis Cancer Fund at Northern Maine Medical Center.
