HOULTON — Davis Certified Public Accountant (CPA) of Presque Isle has recently opened a new location in Houlton to better serve their clientele.
Davis CPA, a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ Government Audit Quality Center, specializes in municipal audit. As a member of the National Association of Tax Preparers, Davis CPA prepares corporate and individual tax returns.
The Houlton office, managed by Amanda Willette, will handle corporate and individual tax returns, along with payroll and bookkeeping services.
“Our mission is to provide our clients with timely, professional services at a reasonable cost,” added Willette.
Located on the corner of North Street and the Bangor Road intersection, Davis CPA is tucked behind Northern Maine Realty, which occupied the space, until they moved to the front office when the State Farm Agency moved to its new site.
“It’s very good exposure,” said Peter Davis, owner of Davis CPA. “There is a lot of traffic that goes through downtown Houlton.”
“It’s a highly visible area,” Willette added.
Davis has worked in public accounting for more than 20 years and opened his own CPA business in 1999, with one client at that time.
“We do work all over the county,” Davis said. “I have a number of clients in southern Aroostook. We serve clients from Fort Kent to Danforth. Opening an office in Houlton serves a couple of purposes. It lets us provide a better service and it makes it more convenient for people to get the service they are looking for, and that’s really what we try to provide.”
Though many items can be taken care of electronically, many people like to see a representative, instead of trying to e-mail information.
“There are times when people like to drop off their information,” Davis explained. “People may like you to go to their office to resolve an issue or they have questions on their accounting system and they’d like us to come take a look at it. It is easier to do with Amanda in Houlton. She can do that a lot quicker than I can run down from Presque Isle.”
Davis noted his business is a professional CPA office.
“We do offer a number of services,” he added. “We don’t just do tax returns. We don’t just do bookkeeping. We have a pretty good audit business and a pretty good corporate tax business. We also do a lot of work with small business owners.”
“The Houlton office is in the process of being recognized as a certified payroll preparer by the state of Maine and also a Q.B. certified pro-advisor,” explained Davis. “Both of these certifications will be forthcoming.”
Davis CPA focuses on small business, whether the business is incorporated or under a sole proprietorship.
“We are trying to build up a payroll service,” said Davis. “We can provide a personalized service. We are flexible and convenient.”
Davis CPA located at 5 Bangor St. is open Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and by appointment. Willette can be reached by calling 538-3028 or visit the Davis CPA website at www.daviscpaonline.com.
“We are currently accepting new clients,” said Davis. “We look forward to serving the needs of our clients.”
