Crazy Caribou Games back by popular demand

The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department staff are pleased to announce that the Crazy Caribou Games will be back this year during winter carnival with more fun, more laughs and a new event.

Kathy Mazzuchelli, superintendent of Parks and Recreation stated, “The purpose of the Crazy Caribou Games is in keeping with the Let’s Move theme and to encourage the non-spandex crowd to get out, move and have some fun — and of course we welcome the spandex crowd too.”

Once again this year there will be four events offered including: canoe racing, outhouse racing, the couch potato biathlon and, new this year, the Caribou Cardboard Sled Race, sponsored by the Caribou Area Chamber of Commerce and the Caribou Lions Club.

The canoe racing, outhouse racing and the couch potato biathlon will be held Saturday, Feb. 25 at Teague Park beginning at 12:30 p.m. The Caribou Cardboard Sled Race will be held Sunday, Feb. 26 at the Caribou Country Club beginning at 2 p.m.

There can be up to 10 members per team and each team must participate in three of the four events to qualify for the honor of the top Crazy Caribou Team.  Not every team member has to participate in each event, but they have to be pre-registered as part of the team prior to the first event the team chooses to participate in.

Since the event is to promote fun and exercise, points will be awarded for: team costumes, a team cheer; and of course participation. At the end of February the Crazy Caribou Team winners will be announced via local media and receive T-shirts acknowledging their accomplishments.

For those who come in first, there will be prizes awarded for each event, however the place in any event will not count towards the team totals for the honor of being designated as the Crazy Caribou Team 2012.

The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department will provide all equipment with the exception of the cardboard creation for the cardboard sled race.
