HODGDON — The 1950s were alive and well at Crest View Manor Friday as residents and staff enjoyed music, food and dancing from that era.
Organized by Tracy Tarr and Monica Tardiff, Crest View Manor residents were treated to milkshakes, hamburgers and fries, and a healthy dose of 1950s music from Elvis and Little Richard to Chuck Berry.

“We put together a ‘50s sock hop for an activity for the residents,” said Tardiff, a staff member at the residential care facility located on Court Street. “Every day we do activities either taking them out in public to have coffee or dinner or even taking them out shopping. We also play games do arts and crafts. This time we decided to do something extravagant so they also can have fun and relive the ‘50s.”
Decorations for the event were donated by staff member Blanche Russell. The staff has also held Western theme parties for its residents.
Meghan Hebert, a sophomore at Hodgdon High School, volunteered at the event. Hebert came to the residential care facility even though school had been cancelled that day because of snow.
“Several students from Hodgdon High School or Mill Pond School from the seventh grade come out to volunteer a few times a week,” Tardiff said. “They have to volunteer to get hours for graduation. It also shows the students how to help people less fortunate than they are in every age group. Church groups and students tend to volunteer about once or twice a week. During the holidays, we are always looking for extra help from volunteers to come in or to take residents out in public.”
Those interested in volunteering at the facility can contact Tarr or Tardiff at 532-3498.
