BRITTON, Harold Stewart, 77, PRESQUE ISLE, January 27, 2012. Friends may call from noon until the time of the funeral services at 1 p.m. Wed., Feb. 1, at the Funeral Home. A military graveside service will be held at a later date at the Maine Veterans Cemetary in Caribou. Arrangements in care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Homes, Presque Isle.

American Flag ColorPRESQUE ISLE – Harold Stewart Britton, 77, better known to his friends as Britt, died January 27, 2012, at his home in Presque Isle. He was born July 8, 1934, in Camden, ME, son of Walter and Blanche Britton, and was raised in Westfield, ME.

    Britt is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Louise E. Britton of Presque Isle; two sons, John H. Britton and wife, Rebecca of Fayetteville, NC, and Alan R. Britton and wife, Deborah of Falmouth, ME; six grandchildren; one sister, Muriel Blotner of Apache Junction, AR; one brother,  James S. Winslow of Tainan City, Taiwan; and numerous  nieces and nephews.

    He was predeceased by one brother, John Winslow; and sister, Winifred Shaw.

    Britt was a U.S. army veteran and received special congressional recognition for his service to his country in the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, Whitecoat Program. Subsequent to his military service, he worked at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. He moved to Presque Isle in 1963 and worked in the potato processing industry as a quality control manager as well as a plant manager for many years.

    Britt was a member of the Presque Isle Elks Lodge #1954 and NRA, and was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, camping and snowmobiling.

    Friends may call from noon until the time of the funeral services at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church Street, Presque Isle, ME 04769, with the Rev. Dr. Ken Phelps officiating. A military graveside service will be held at a later date at the Maine Veterans Cemetary in Caribou, ME, to include his family and friends.
