Aroostook Times
Ludlow — Ingraham Bros. purchased a fine pair of black horses recently from C.H. Berry of Houlton. They weighed 3,300 pounds.
Houlton boys — At the Boys Conference held in Waterville last week, two Houlton boys were elected to serve as officers for the year 1912; Leigh Cleveland, vice president and John Tenney Jr., secretary. Roy Fowler of Island Falls was also chosen as one of the vice presidents.
Local — The Gentlemen’s Driving Club is planning on a race Friday afternoon on the ice, when in addition to the local fast ones a number from outside are expected.

Island Falls — The Emma V. Milliken Memorial Hospital will soon become a reality following the recent announcement of the gift to the town of his summer home for that purpose by former Governor Carl E. Milliken.
Party — A number of employees of the Newberry Store enjoyed a picnic dinner Sunday at the Rainbow Cottage at Crescent Park.
Twins again — Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ellis, Pleasant Street, became the proud parents of a second set of twin sons. Before her marriage, Mrs. Ellis was Miss Anna Jay.
Retirement — Horace Kelso, who completed 27 years of service with the Houlton Post Office was guest of honor at a delightful party. Bridge and Monopoly were enjoyed.

Award — A national magazine has named Maine State Detective Otis N. LaBree winner of its “Police Officer of the Month” award for March.
Possible consolidation — A meeting has been held by residents of Ludlow and New Limerick to consider the possibility of the two small communities building an elementary school.
Accepted — Paul Adams, 26, who will receive his B.A. from Ricker College will register at the University of Miami as a candidate for the master’s degree in education. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Adams.
Monticello — Mr. and Mrs. Roland Codrey of Monticello celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Grange Hall.

Royalty — St. Mary’s School royalty is presiding over the week-long events involved in Catholic Schools Week. The 1987 reigning royalty selected by the school are Prince Peter Williams of grade 3; Queen Tina Carroll of grade 6; King Daniel Hiscoe of grade 7 and Princess Mary Mersereau of grade 2.
1,000 points — Jay Bedwell, an elementary education major at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, hit his 1,000th career point during the first round of the Star City Invitational Championship. Bedwell played high school basketball for Southern Aroostook and his coach at SACS and UMPI has been his father, Jesse.
Council — Dale Flewelling, who is completing a three-year term on the SAD 29 Board of Directors has filed nomination papers for a three-year term on the Houlton Town Council. Paul Doolen has also taken out nomination papers.
