Happy Losers

    The Happy Losers held the weekly meeting on Jan. 25th at the Congregational Church vestry in Island Falls. Jackie Pratt, the leader opened the meeting with the pledge and roll call.
Nine ladies weighted-in and seven attended. Weight loss was great after missing a week. Great job ladies!! Mary Shaw was loser of the week and Loretta Bouchard was runner-up. The secretary gave a report for the week.
    Meeting was informative and interesting with everyone taking part with weight issues. Please feel welcome to our group, every Wed 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. weigh-ins and meeting starts at 9:00 a.m. Call 365-4884 for more info. Now is the time to take weight off as spring will be here soon!

Friends & Needles Quilt Guild

    The Friends and Needles Quilt Guild met Jan. 3, at 7:05 p.m. at Houlton Regional Hospital by co-chair Jennifer Metzger. The group welcomed new member Melinda Fuller.
Reminders for those attending quilt retreat: Bring some treats to share. Please park in the back of the hotel. Retreat time starts at 3 p.m. A “thank you” note was read to us from the Salvation Army for the Christmas gift of $500. Please see calendar events for the dates, times and places of the up and coming workshops. There is something every month.
Project Linus — We received $50 for our guild for replying to a survey. Project Linus newsletter is called the Blanket Beacon, which can be found online.
2012 Raffle Quilt — Work continues at Peggy Crane’s shop, “I’d Rather Be Quilting,” on Tuesday evenings. Every member is invited and encouraged to come and help. So far a collective 100 hours have been put into this years quilt. If you wish you can bring a sewing machine, iron, mat, ruler, etc. But bring yourself…Please.
Be thinking of a name for this year’s quilt. Barb Sharp needs one soon for the raffle tickets. Profits raised from the quilt raffles are for 2010 – $1,585 and 2011 – $1,108.
If there is anyone who needs good wishes please let Pam Hocking know. The next meeting is Feb. 7. at 6:30 p.m. at HRH. Fat quarters to bring: anything red.
Hostesses Cathy Hobbs, Maryann Stewart and Lynn Tweedie. Don’t forget to bring your four fabric blocks to sew together at the next meeting.

Patten Seniors meet

    Patten Senior Citizens met for their regular meeting at Meadowbrook Manor with six members and two guests present.
The Lord’s Prayer was recited before the potluck meal. After the meal, President Annette Noyes opened the business meeting and also led the flag salute. Secretary and treasurer reports were read and accepted. Cards were signed and sent to Lee Wheaton, Glenn Kennedy, Gloria Noyes, Wallace and Jeannette Harvey and Talia Harvey.
Bonnie Pratt, RSVP Coordinator, spoke of the changes that are occurring with the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program.
The Game was played. The menu for the Feb. 7 meeting will be soup and sandwiches.
