As the season is quickly coming to a close, local high school basketball teams have a few games left on their season schedule to hopefully make an impact on positioning for the playoffs.
The regular season play ends Feb. 10, with preliminaries Feb. 14-15, followed by the Eastern Maine Tournament Feb. 17-25. State games for classes A, C and D will be March 3.
The Shead girls overpowered East Grand, 62-36 in Eastport last Saturday.
Shead took a 15-6 opening lead and doubled East Grand’s scoring in the third, 48-24, for the win.

Shaunna Beaudoin led East Grand with 16 points.
Woodland raced by visiting East Grand, 74-27. The Dragons led 15-3 to start the game and held a 24-12 halftime cushion. After three, Woodland led 56-17.
Logan Crone paced East Grand with nine points, while Mitchell Bartlett added five and Neil Noble, Alex Stoddard, Alex Brittain and Billy Stoddard each had three points.
In Van Buren last Thursday, the Hodgdon Hawks rang up a 53-45 win over the Crusaders.
Josh Hudson led the way with 16 points, while Chris Hudson netted 13 and Tyler Sherman chipped in with 10.
Last Wednesday, Schenck overtook Katahdin, 53-23.
In East Millinocket, Megan Merry had 13 points for the Katahdin girls.
Last Tuesday in Dyer Brook, the Southern Aroostook boys overpowered Limestone/MSSM, 72-35.
The Warriors were not to be denied a victory, as they built a 35-11 halftime lead and extended it over three, 60-22, en route to the easy win.
Pat Goodall netted 21 points and Jesse Boulier had 15 more to lead the Warriors, while Trent Cullinan scored eight and Joe Frazier finished with seven points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals. Vance Gustin posted six points and seven rebounds.
