Mutt Nose Best now available

    “We call ourselves Entre’PAW’neurs, said Jenny Dwyer, co-owner of Mutt Nose Best.
    Dwyer and her husband, Doug, son of Gary and Hope Dwyer of New Limerick are manufacturing a pet line in Bangor.
    “We specialize in unique, fun and healthy pet grooming products made with local ingredients, including wild Maine blueberries and organic Maine oats,” Dwyer explained.
ON THE SHELVES — Mutt Nose Best dog products are on shelves in 140 shops from Houlton to Tampa, Fla. Aroostook Milling Company is carrying their product line.
    The Dwyers’ passion for their pets and well being vaulted the new business venture.
    “We started being very conscious of the products we feed our pets,” said Dwyer. “When the dog food scare happened a few years ago (2007), I started making our dog’s food and that vigilance carried over to the products we use on them topically.”
    Needing a natural sunscreen for their Australian shepherd Bandit’s pink nose, another product was introduced.
    “He was always burning then peeling,” said Dwyer of Bandit’s nose. “I felt guilty putting sunscreen on him because he inevitably would lick some off. I was worried about the chemicals he was ingesting.”
    Starting in her kitchen, Dwyer began concocting different formulas using natural ingredients. Mutt Nose Best balm was invented out of necessity.
    “The other grooming products followed using natural, healing remedies passed down for generations,” added Dwyer.
    Mutt Nose Best offers a complete line of sulfate-free dog shampoos, including U. Smelly Dog, U. Itchy Dog, U. Dirty Dog, U. Berry Calm Puppy, U. Hairy Dog, U. Pumpkin Patch Pup and a holiday scent, U. Puppermint Pup.
    “Our signature line is U. Berry Clean Dog, which is made with a wild Maine blueberry patent pending formula,” Dwyer added.
    With each of their products, Mutt Nose Best keeps functionality in mind.
    Our balm comes in a stick form so you can hold the dog with one hand and apply the balm with the other, explained Dwyer. “Our other products are designed to be used one-handed also so you always have a hand for your pet. Our pre-moistened ear/eye wipes called finger “PUPpets” easily slip onto your finger to wipe away dirt and grime. You then toss it leaving your fingers clean.”
    The Dwyers own five dogs, so each product was invented out of necessity.
    “We are  very familiar with what works and what makes products easier and more convenient to use,” added Dwyer.
    Mutt Nose Best first hit store shelves on July 28, 2011. They are now in 140 shops from Houlton to Tampa. Fla.
