The newborn is the son of Cassandra Malone and Brandon Berry of Presque Isle. Grandparents are Rick and Tracy Sandford of Houlton and Darrell and Tina Malone of Oakfield.

Braedyn and his parents were presented with gifts from the hospital and the Cary Medical Center Auxiliary. Auxiliary members personally donate gifts and handmade items for a New Year’s Baby Basket, which includes items for the newborn and for Mom and Dad as well.

This year the traditional basket was actually a handmade wooden chest crafted by Conrad Caron of Caribou, which was recently raffled at an Auxiliary fund-raiser. Andrea Gallagher of Caribou, an Auxiliary member won the raffle, and in turn donated the item for the New Year’s Baby project.

According to Auxiliary members the chest also contained a handmade quilt donated by the Crown of Maine Quilters. Cary Auxiliary members have coordinated this project for the first baby born in the New Year at Cary Medical Center and made personal donations for the past seven years.

With an estimated 20 active members, the Cary Medical Center Auxiliary continues to thrive, supporting the hospital by hosting various fundraisers with proceeds supporting many hospital projects.
