ROOPE, Robert B., Jr., 84, PRESQUE ISLE, December 28, 2011. A spring interment will be in the Johnson Cemetery in Presque Isle. Arrangements in care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Homes, Presque Isle.

American Flag ColorPRESQUE ISLE – Robert B. Roope Jr., died December 28, 2011, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born at that same place, August 27, 1927, the son of Robert B. and Margaret (Keirstead) Roope. Bob began his farming career at the age of 15, until the age of 81.

    He served in the US Army from 1947 until 1949. In 2008, his family was honored by being selected Farm Family of the Year in 2008. Bob was an active member of the Maysville Grange, Presque Isle Fish and Game Club, and the Presque Isle Snowmobile Club. He served as a Director, on the Agriculture Bargaining Council, was a member of the Agway Store Committee and also the Johnson Cemetery Association for many years.

    He is survived by his loving wife, Regina Tozier Roope; two sons, Bruce E. Roope and his wife, Dolores, and Brandon Roope, all of Presque Isle; a daughter, Stacy Roope and her friend, Richard Niland of Danvers, MA; grandchildren, Kristie Moir and her husband, Jason, and Jody Shaw and her husband, Woody; great-grandchildren, Lane and Maren Moir, and Shelby, Jessica and Samantha Shaw; brothers, Edward Roope of Gorham, and William Roope and his wife, Brenda of Winterport; several nieces and nephews.

    Predeceasing him were two brothers, Rev. Donald Thompson and Keith Thompson; and two sisters, Dorothy Gott and Jean Thompson Barker.

    Funeral services were conducted Monday, January 2, at 1 p.m., at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with Rev. George McLaughlin officiating. Relatives and friends called at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service. A reception followed in the gathering area of the funeral home.
