BRIDGEWATER — A 39-year-old New Brunswick man was in Aroostook County Jail Saturday following his arrest at the Bridgewater Port of Entry for supplying drugs to a Houlton dealer.

According to Darrell Crandall, division commander for the MDEA, Reginald Stockford was stopped and held at the Bridgewater Port of Entry by Customs and Border Patrol officials. Stockford was wanted on an arrest warrant from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency for unlawful trafficking in methamphetamine. The arrest warrant was issued by Aroostook County Superior Court.

Stockford is accused of supplying methamphetamine to Paul Folsom, of Houlton, which was then sold in the southern Aroostook County area. Folsom was recently sentenced to eight years in prison, with all but three years suspended for trafficking. Both men were part of a group targeted for investigation by MDEA in the fall of 2010, according to Crandall.

“The focus of that investigation was the smuggling of methamphetamine tablets into Maine from New Brunswick, which were then sold in Aroostook County,” Crandall said. “The MDEA investigation resulted in the seizure of more than 4,400 dosage units of methamphetamine with a retail street value of $130,000.”

Agents made 12 arrests during the lengthy investigation, including Saturday’s arrest of Stockford. Stockford made an initial appearance in court Monday and his bail was set at $50,000 cash. If convicted he faces up to 10 years in prison.

Additional arrests remain possible before this investigation is closed, Crandall said.

The Houlton Police Department, Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police, Homeland Security Investigations (formerly ICE/OI) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police assisted MDEA with the investigation and arrests.
