PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The University of Maine-Fort Kent men’s basketball team hit 12-of-13 shots from three-point range to defeat the host University of Maine-Presque Isle on Saturday afternoon, 80-58.

UMFK’s Jeremy Thomas led the Bengals’ long distance barrage making six of seven triples. Teammate Jeremy Bishop was three for three from downtown.

Fort Kent started behind the arc early scoring their first nine points on a trio of three pointers in the opening minutes of the contest.

One highlight for the Owls was provided by big 7-6 freshmen Robert Wegner, who was able to break free for a dunk that momentarily fired up the Wieden Gym crowd.

Leading scorers were Thomas for the Bengals with 22 and Patrick Manifold with 17 for UMPI.

The Owls take a break from game action for the rest of December and will return to the court for a home game against Houghton (NY) College on Thursday, Jan. 5. Tip time is set for 6 p.m.
