Generous gentlemen
To the editor:
Thank you Senator Mitchell for your generous gift of one scholarship each year, awarded to a senior in every high school in Maine.
This is one of the finest gestures ever given by an individual to benefit education in Maine. You have made us proud as our senator, Senate majority leader in Washington, and peace advocate in Ireland and the Middle East. The late Sen. Ed Muskie must be very pleased.
I met you a few times years ago and you always remember my name. My daughter met you once in Washington and you remembered my name. Occasionally we read of some person making a substantial gift to our colleges, hospitals, library, towns, etc. The citizens of this great state thank all of you.
I also noticed that Floyd Harding donated $1 million to the Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle several years ago — another good deed.
