Ashland teacher arrested for gross sexual assault

    ASHLAND — A 26-year-old Ashland District School English teacher has been charged with gross sexual assault, following an investigation by the Maine State Police.

ne-MSP StephenWierzbowski-clr-cx-sh-49    “Maine State Police detectives arrested Stephen Wierzbowski, 26, of Ashland, on Nov. 30, on charges of gross sexual assault and tampering with a victim, both Class C offenses,” said Sgt. John Cote, MSP Criminal Investigation Division II.

    The arrest was made following a tip from school officials.

    “Representatives from the Ashland District School contacted the Maine State Police on Wednesday morning and provided information that resulted in the initiation of an investigation on Stephen Wierzbowski,” said Cote.

    Wierzbowski had been employed as a high school English teacher in Ashland since the fall of 2010. According to Cote, Wierzbowski had previously been employed as a high school teacher in Greenville from 2008-10.

    “Wierzbowski was taken to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton,” said Cote.

    Wierzbowski was arraigned on Friday, Dec. 2, in Presque Isle District Court, via teleconferencing from Houlton. According to the District Attorney’s office, he is scheduled for a status conference March 22, 2012, in Caribou Superior Court. Bail has been set at $10,000 single surety.

    At presstime, Wierzbowski remained at the Aroostook County Jail, unable to make bail.
