BRIDGEWATER – Nedra Hartley, 95, passed away Friday, December 2, 2011, at a Mars Hill nursing facility. She was born in Bridgewater on July 11, 1916, the daughter of Warren and Violet (Stitham) Perrigo.
She was affectionately called “babe” by her father. Nedra was a member of the Bridgewater Full Gospel Assembly and taught Sunday School for many years. Her love of writing was evident through her writing of three books and many poems. She was also an encourager to many people through her card and note ministry. The scriptures say “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of one of his saints.” Ps. 116:15.
She is survived by a son, Steven D. Hartley Sr. of Alabama; two daughters, Valerie M. Lunn and her husband, Thomas, and Constance DeLong of Bridgewater. She also leaves behind grandchildren, Kendra McCleary, Kris DeLong, Cleola Wilson, Tina Stone, and Steven Hartley Jr.; as well as several great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Elmer D. Hartley; one sister, Cleola Doran; and a brother, Robert L. Perrigo.
Funeral services were conducted 2:30 p.m., Sunday December 4, 2011, at the Duncan Funeral Home with Pastor Anthony Briscoe officiating. Friends called from 1:30 p.m. until time of service. The committal service was at the funeral home and burial took place at Smith Cemetery in Bridgewater. Arrangements in care of Duncan Funeral Home, 8 Main St., Mars Hill.
