PRESQUE ISLE — An afternoon crash near Arnold Brook Lake Monday sent a local man to the hospital with what officials believed were non-life-threatening injuries.
“The Presque Isle Police Department received a call around 12:44 p.m. of a rollover on the Niles Road, less than a mile east of the intersection with the Chapman Road,” said Officer Lynn Hartley, PIPD, who served as lead investigator of the accident.
Staff photo/Kathy McCarty A ROLLOVER MONDAY afternoon sent 29-year-old Christopher Langille, of Presque Isle, to The Aroostook Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. Langille’s condition was not available at presstime. Here, emergency personnel are shown working to extricate the victim from the vehicle at the scene of the accident on the Niles Road. Firefighters had to cut a section of the roof off to gain access to Langille. Officer Cole Chandler, PIPD, removed items from the back of the van to allow an EMT to reach the victim. Officer Lynn Hartley, lead investigator, took pictures for reconstruction purposes later, while Officer Kevin Reed assisted firefighters.
Police responded to find a 1995 Econoline Van operated by Christopher Langille, 29, of Presque Isle, resting precariously on its driver’s side in the ditch on the right side of the road.
“We believe speed may have been a factor. It appears Langille got into the soft shoulder, tried to correct, lost control and hit a culvert, going airborne. He wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and the airbag didn’t go off,” said Hartley, noting that because of the angle of the van, emergency personnel had to brace the vehicle to prevent it from rolling so that crews could extricate the victim.
“First responders from the Presque Isle Fire Department used hydraulic equipment to cut the roof open to reach Langille. He was transported by Crown Ambulance to The Aroostook Medical Center with what we believe to be non-life-threatening injuries. We’re waiting for test results to know how serious his injuries are,” said Hartley Monday afternoon.
Langille was traveling alone at the time of the accident.
Assisting Hartley at the scene were Chief Matt Irwin and Officers Kevin Reed and Cole Chandler, of the PIPD.
The road was closed for about an hour as crews worked to rescue the driver, then Impact Auto removed the vehicle. The van was deemed a total loss.
