Tucker to coach SACS girls’ basketball program

A former Southern Aroostook graduate and last year’s girl’s junior varsity coach has stepped up to fill  the coaching position for the Southern Aroostook Lady Warriors varsity basketball team.
Harris Tucker has taken the reins from Cliff Urquhart, who guided the team for two years before stepping down. Tucker was Urquhart’s assistant a year ago.
Harris, a 1991 graduate of Southern Aroostook, attended Northern Maine Community College. He has played and coached basketball in previous years.
“I played basketball from the time I was in Peewee to my sophomore year in high school,” he said. “I have eight years of coaching experience between the Oakfield girls Peewee and Southern Aroostook junior varsity girls.”
The focus and goal of this year’s Lady Warriors in grounded in a firm tradition.
“We want to play team basketball and make it to the Bangor Auditorium again this year,” said Tucker.
The Lady Warriors are a fairly young squad, as they graduated three senior starters. Tucker has just completed tryouts, which saw two seniors, seven juniors, five sophomores and two freshmen coming out.    “We are going to build our team one game at a time,” said Tucker. “We will be looking to fix our weaknesses and strengthen our team basketball.”
