Need readers’ help with recipe
To the editor:
My husband was stationed at Loring AFB and we live.d in the military quarters in Presque Isle. Our daughter, Debbie, went to Presque Isle High School in 1973. One of her school friends got married and our family enjoyed fun and food at the wedding reception.
Now I am getting to the point of my letter, so many years later. A fantastic cookie was on the serving table and while I did have the recipe while in Maine, through the years I have lost it! I have hunted in every cookbook, even one from Maine, but this cookie is nowhere to be found.
It was the size of a ping pong ball and smaller than a golf ball. One ingredient I remember was chopped dates. Lots of chopped walnuts, plus other ingredients. The recipe called for you to mold the balls and then dip them in melted chocolate with a little paraffin wax. They were wonderful and I hope this recipe is still alive and well in northern Maine!
I am hoping to someday be able to serve them on the “sweet table” at our ranch and call the cookie “Best ever Presque Isle Maine French Cookie.” I know our guest will love them.
