Twenty-six inducted into Caribou NHS

The Faculty Council of the Caribou Chapter of the National Honor Society announced the election of the following students during a Nov. 3 Night of Induction held in the Caribou Performing Arts Center. This year marks the 85th year of continuous service of the National Honor society as an integral part of Caribou High School.

Inducted from the CHS Class of 2012 were: Victoria Degenhardt, Katrina Mcpherson, Paige Nadeau, Sarah Plourde, Nichols Pucci, Emily Staples and JinSun Thomas.

Inductees from the Class of 2013 included Devin Ballard, Chelsea Bard, Mackenzie Belyea, Tiffany Bishop, Kayla Cormier, Emma Duplissie-Cyr, Kelsie Espling, Hannah Hebert, Haley Hunter, Ginger Kieffer, Alexa Massey, Alexis McCrossin, Sarah McQuade, Reanna Plourde, Ashley Richards, Meredith Sleeper, Olivia Sleeper, Kendra Stephens and Tyler Willey.

Prior to the formal induction ceremony, parents of NHS Alumni, under the direction of Patricia Anderson decorated the cafeteria with maroon and white tablecloths and matching NHS white and gold place mats, dinner napkins and individual dinner cards for each member and their invited guests. Each of the tables also held a plant, provided by Noyes Flower and Plant Shoppe of Caribou.

Dinner included chicken parmesan with brown sugar-blazed carrots, russet Norkotah baked potatoes, Caesar salad, white dinner rolls (provided by Frederick’s Southside Restaurant) and the famous NHS punch. A dessert bar featured chocolate brownies, courtesy of Reno’s Family Restaurant and cakes baked by the NHS members.

Student volunteers from the CHS Classes of 2014 and ‘15 served the sit-down dinner. Nadine Ouellette, director of the Caribou High School cafeteria, supervised the meal preparation.

Immediately following the dinner, students, faculty members, friends and family entered into the performing arts center for the pin and oath ceremony.

As the newly elected students came forward to accept their NHS gown and sign the membership book, whomever was witnessing the evening’s event were handed ‘the pin’ by NHS Advisor and faculty member Kenneth Atcheson.

The Candle Lighting Ceremony was presented by NHS officers.  

Mark Jones, Caribou High School principal administered the NHS oath to the 26 new inductees. Caleb Chapman, NHS president, Caribou Chapter, gave the evening’s closing remarks.

Providing special musical entertainment were NHS members Annie Collins, Marigan Doody, Samantha Murchison, Kelly Kashian, Cory Marrett, Morgan Swan and Joshua Kovach who sang, “Omnia Sol” by Z. Randall Stroope.

NHS members Elsa Thibodeau and Nickolas Dobson presented a flute duet to “Theme from Polovetsian Dances” and “The Sleeping Beauty Waltz.”

NHS Kjetil Rossignol performed at the piano, “Nocturne in E. Flat Major, Op. 9 No.2 by Frederic Chopin.

The officers of the 2011 Caribou Chapter of the National Honor Society include: Caleb Chapman, president; Annie Colins, vice president; Katie Keaton, recording secretary; Elsa Thibodeau, corresponding secretary; Kjetil Rossignol, executive council member; Atcheson and Mme. Wanda Theriault, honorary advisor.
