PORTLAND – Carrie Lucille Appleby, 101, passed away at the Barron Center on Friday, Oct. 29, 2011. She was born in Houlton on July 1, 1910, the daughter of the late Thomas and Mabel Dunphy.
Carrie retired from Baxter School for the Deaf and worked many years at the Cushman Bakery. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Rebeccah Lodges.
Carrie leaves behind her children, Richard Appleby and his wife, Virginia, and Constance Sewell; her grandchildren, Nancy Sewell, Richard Sewell and his wife, Patty, Karen Lythgoe, Steven Appleby and his wife, Regina, Lisa Appleby and Daniel Appleby and his wife, Kelly; great-grandchildren, Jamison, Rebecca, Hannah, Dalton, Noah, Ethan, Sarah, Jennifer and Emma; and her sister, Jennie Murphy. Carrie will be also be missed by Joyce and Diane Curry, whose company she enjoyed so much. She was predeceased by her husband, Christie Appleby; her son, Allen; four brothers and one sister.
The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the staff and friends at Park Danforth for the kindness shown to Carrie for the many years she was a resident.
A mass of Christian burial was held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 279 Congress St., Portland. Interment followed at Brooklawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the care of Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland.
