LIMESTONE — If the first Trunk-or-Treat event in Limestone received a warm reception from the community, than this year’s rendition was met with thunderous applause; there may have only been one new vehicle entry, but it’s safe to say that this year’s entries were so well done, they blew last year’s decor out of the water. (Except for the Prius decorated to look like a shark — that entry has to stay in the water to breathe).

The Blvd. Graphix entry, under direction of owner Joe LaPierre, at left, won a trophy, which a shy Evan LaPierre (aka Spiderman) hid behind.

“I’m excited that everyone went all out this year,” said Limestone Recreation Director Amanda Brooker. “People returned this year with bigger and better ideas and that’s the good thing about an event like this — it gets bigger and better as it goes.”

How big could the 16-entry event have been?

One contestant pulled into the LCS parking lot on Oct. 31 with their own haunted house, pulled by a tractor-trailer truck. There was literally a house on the back of the truck.

That entry was, of course, created by Chris, Bobby, Brian and Jacob Edgecomb of Edgecomb Farms.

“That whole phrase ‘go big or go home?’ They go big every time,” Brooker said. (The Edgecomb brother are notorious in recently history for their entries in Limestone’s annual Light Parade as well).

It’s hard to gauge just how many people attended Trunk-or-Treat, as each costumed youth was typically followed by a train of camera-clad adults, some costumed as well.

Brooker estimated that anywhere between 300 and 400 people attended the town’s Halloween event.

Jinkies! The cast of Scooby Doo was emulated by, from left, Jason Sprague as Shaggy, Becca Langley as Daphne, Linda Harvey as Fred and Ellen Langley as Thelma. The four were so convincing, you could almost here the quintessential antagonist phrase “and I would have gotten away with it if it weren’t for you meddling kids!”

While there were plenty of super heroes, witches and a variety of animals gathering goodies, some of the best costumes were worn by the vehicles themselves — like the “Jaws”-themed Prius and two Mystery Machines from different renditions of “Scooby Doo.”

While each entry was trophy-worthy, judges Annie Sinclair, Emily Michaud, Sirrea Deschaines and Jacob Pelletier narrowed down eight winners.

• Best Overall went to Edgecomb Farms, represented by Chris, Bobby, Brian and Jacob Edgecomb.

• Best Theme went to Roz and Alan Mulherin with Matthew and Diane Brooker, for their exceptionally costumed “Wizard of Oz” entry.

• Spookiest went to the Aroostook Paranormal Investigation Society, represented by Karralena Castaway and Michaeala Sainte.

• Prettiest was awarded to Girl Scout Troop 844, represented by Stephenie Bragg, Rebecca Dillenbeck, Megan Tucker and Karoline Dillenbeck.

• Best Business Entry went to Blvd. Graphix, represented by Jasper Tamburello and Joe, Leanne and Evan LaPierre.

• Best New Business Entry went to Valerie O’Neal and her “Beauty School Dropout” theme.

• Best Antique Car went to the “old school” Mystery Machine crafted by Rebecca Langley, Ellen Langley, Linda Harvey and Jason Sprague.

• Most Creative went to Mike Cyr and Pat Allen of Mike’s Family Market, with their “Jaws”-themed entry.

The next big event through the Recreation Department is the Holiday Light Parade on Nov. 26, themed “Parade of Trees.”

It wasn’t just the bipeds that enjoyed the second annual Trunk or Treat in Limestone — this little dog, Cloe, was all dressed up for Halloween as well. Jeremiah Eivers was walking the dog for her owner.

In case the Haunted House hosted by MSSM students wasn’t enough to frighten trunk-or-treaters, Chris, at left, and Bob Edgecomb, at right, literally brought their own haunted house to the event — a solid building, atop a flat bed, decorated inside and out with a spooky theme. Shown exiting the haunted house is Mike Cyr, dressed up like a member of KISS.

Jordan Thompson, left, and Abigayle St. Peter had a very Smurfy time trunk-or-treating in Limestone; Thompson was a very convincing Papa Smurf while St. Peter was a dainty Smurfette.
