Caribou native named UMFK coach

sp-holabird-dcx-ar-44FORT KENT — Bradley Holabird, a Caribou native, has been named the next women’s basketball coach at the University of Maine at Fort Kent in an announcement made by UMFK Athletic Director Bill Ashby.

Holabird, who is the current head athletic trainer at UMFK, graduated from the UM-Presque Isle in 2005 with a bachelor of science in physical education with a concentration in athletic training and is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association.

Holabird most recently served as boys varsity assistant basketball coach in Caribou from 2006-09. Holabird has been working very closely with each student-athlete at UMFK since his tenure began at Fort Kent as head athletic trainer in mid-October of last year.

The Lady Bengals, return five players from last year’s team including Sunrise Conference Rookie of the Year Jenn Colpitts. UMFK (13-11) lost in the SC semifinals to eventual champ UM-Machias a year ago.

Holabird and UMFK will open their 2011-12 campaign against Machias on Friday, Nov. 11 at 5:30 p.m. in the Bengal Classic in Fort Kent.
