UMPI women look to move up in rankings
The University of Maine Presque Isle women’s soccer team hopes to continue to climb in the national rankings after posting two wins over the weekend.
Elena Estrada scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, to lead the Owls Isle to a 3-1 road win at Maine Maritime Academy on Sunday. Chelsea Beauchemin assisted two of the UMPI goals, including the game-winner.
On Saturday the Owls dropped Fisher College by a 3-0 score.
Goalkeeper Taylor Ussery posted her fourth straight shutout, although partial credit certainly can go to the entire Owls team who made sure that Ussery did not have to face one shot in the entire contest.
UMPI, now 10-4, entered this weekend’s matches ranked No. 10 in the latest USCAA Coaches’ Poll. With their two wins this weekend, the Owls hope to strengthen their case for an invitation to the eight-team USCAA National Tournament held in Asheville, N.C. on Nov. 3-5.
UMPI returns to action for their final game of the regular season next Sunday at UMaine-Machias. The Clippers shut out the Owls 2-0 back on Sept. 18 in Presque Isle. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
