LIMESTONE — Despite the downpour on Oct. 15, it was another successful Open House at the Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge, sponsored by the refuge’s Friends group.

Little Vivian Bell was the winner of the scavenger hunt raffle during the Open House on Oct. 16.

Weather didn’t permit the nature walk scheduled for that afternoon, but there was plenty to be done inside. Vivian Bell won the scavenger hunt raffle and Alexis Rodrisuez won the “I Spy the Alphabet in the Puzzle” contest, during which children had 10 minutes to name all the animals in the puzzle using a different letter in the alphabet for each animal (except X). Rodrisuez came up with 17 animal names, making her the winner. Friends of the Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge member Jonathan McEndarfer facilitated the puzzle challenge, and all youths that participated were given prizes.

Friends group officials also drew the winning tickets for their annual fund-raising raffle. First-place winner of a miniature log cabin was Ken Hensler. Doris Bard won the second-place prize of a wall hanging and Marilyn Beaulieu had the third-place winning ticket for a wildlife blanket.
