According to Pines officials, “this statewide honor recognizes the clinician who exemplifies the best of primary care medicine for the underserved, reaches high standards of quality care, adopts innovations, promotes greater access, and demonstrates leadership to advance primary care for all.”
Pines officials also credit Flynn with dedicating himself to providing high quality, accessible care for community residents.
“Dr. Flynn starts his routine office day early, seeing patients before 7 a.m. so they can get to work on time; when a patient calls asking to be seen, he finds a way to see that patient the same day no matter how busy his schedule might be,” said Karim Slifka, public relations specialist for Pines Health Services. “He is supervising physician for family nurse practitioners and physician assistants; he also precepts students enrolled in these programs from the University of New England and the University of Maine, as well as medical students from the University of Vermont College of Medicine and the Maine Medical Center/Tufts University School of Medicine rural primary care programs.”
Flynn was named Maine Family Physician of the Year for 2009 by the Maine Academy of Family Physicians (MAFP), and Citizen of the Year in 2003 by the Caribou Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
He was elected chairman of the Cary Board of Directors in 2004 — the first physician to serve in this capacity. Dr. Flynn has served multiple terms as elected president of the medical staff at Cary, is a member of Cary’s active staff, and has served as medical director for Loring Job Corps and for Cary’s Diabetes Program.
Flynn is board certified by the Canadian College of Family Practice and American Board of Family Practice, and is a Fellow of the Canadian College of Family Physicians. He and his wife, Clarann, have three children: Duncan, Jillian and Adam.
