Hungarian Piano Virtuoso Adam Gyorgy has performed in concert halls all over the world in cities including Paris, Vienna, Budapest, Singapore, Toronto and Washington D.C.
In November, he will again be featured at Carnegie Hall in New York City, and on October 27, Gyorgy will bring his extraordinary musical talents to Caribou, performing at the Caribou Performing Arts Center (CPAC).
Gyorgy has won numerous awards, including all prizes (first prize, grand prize and special prize) at the First International Chopin Piano Competition in 2004. Not yet 30 years old, Gyorgy was identified as “one of today’s rising stars in classical music performance” by a CNN World Report. After performing in the 2010 Markham Theatre Season Preview Gala in the Toronto area, he was lauded as the “star of the show.”
“This will be a fantastic event for CPAC and a great opportunity for people of this area to see truly one of the world’s top musical talents,” stated Richard Ezzy, who is coordinating the performance at CPAC.
“We are especially hopeful that the area’s young musicians will come out and experience this event. Adam enchants audiences everywhere he performs and we should take advantage of having him in Caribou,” Ezzy added. “We will be selling tickets for $10 and $15 with group tickets available. To compare, tickets for Adam’s performance in Carnegie Hall are more than $100.”
Gyorgy communicates through his music with the understanding that the audience, is an active participant in bringing the music to life. “Some people say we have to break down the walls between classical and popular music. I would say we don’t need to break them down, because there are no walls,” Gyorgy explains. “My goal is to show that music is a language that can communicate our thoughts and emotions better than any other way in this world; it is simply music, with a message to deliver and with emotions to explain.”
The concert on Oct. 27 at CPAC will feature the same program Gyorgy will perform at Carnegie Hall in November: an awe-inspiring program of classical works by Chopin and Liszt, as well as his own improvisations of well-known melodies. Regarded as one of the best Liszt players in the world, Gyorgy’s 2011 concerts honor the 200th birthday of this genius composer from Gyorgy’s home country of Hungary.
Tickets for the event will be $15 for adults and $10 for students. Group sales will also be sold, with a “Buy 10 get 1 Free” offer.
Tickets are available at all County Physical Therapy locations in Aroostook County; Fosters Citgo; One-Stop and Mr. Paperback in Caribou; Bradley’s Citgo and Mr. Paperback in Presque Isle and Tulsa in Van Buren. In Houlton tickets are available only at County Physical Therapy.
Group tickets may be purchased at any ticket outlet, or by e-mailing groupsales@CaribouPAC.org.
