Racinos will benefit hundreds of Maine families

To the editor:

There are a lot of people in Maine who enjoy going to the racetracks in Bangor and Scarborough to watch the horses run.

They’d also like to see a show, stay in a nice hotel and place their bets in slot machines. Instead, they go out of state to spend their money. Canadians and tourists from other states also pick other destinations for their entertainment.

This fall we have an opportunity to allow two racinos right here in Maine — one in Biddeford and one in Washington County. We should embrace these projects by voting Yes on Question 2. For Biddeford Downs alone, private investors are prepared to build a $120 million entertainment complex that Maine people can be proud of. It would create new jobs and protect the ones we already have.

I own horses and I know that if we pass Question 2, it will benefit hundreds of Maine families, and not just directly related to the tracks. We need these projects.
