My favorite car
I have had many cars in my lifetime, and I really loved a lot of them. But, my very favorite two would have to be the two I drove across the country in 2004 and ‘09. And, of the two, my favorite was the 1975 Vega GT I brought home in 2009.
I bought it through an ad in Auto Trader Magazine from a man in California. He sent me pictures, and it looked very nice. It had only 60,000 miles on it. I flew out to the West Coast, and I drove it home to Houlton. I made a mini vacation out of the trip, taking a full four weeks to drive home. I slept in the car most nights, but I got a motel room some nights to clean up and be more comfortable.

I got as far as New Mexico when I lost the brakes because of a leaking wheel cylinder. In Waco, Texas the four-speed shifter locked up and I locked the keys inside and had to break a side window!
But, I really had a great time seeing the country, and I got home OK after my second cross-country adventure. I didn’t keep the car very long though. It had cost me a lot of money to buy it and spend four weeks on the road, so I sold the car later that year to recoup some of that extravagant expense.
