Wildcats rebound from Ellsworth loss

With only a week left in the regular season high school boys’ soccer teams are keeping a close track of where they rank in the Heal Point standings.

Presque Isle is currently No. 3 in Eastern Maine Class B, while Caribou is No. 15.

In Class D several area teams will be making the postseason. Central Aroostook High School remains in the No. 2 spot, despite a 6-4-2 record. Many of the Panther wins have come against point-worthy opponents. Washburn holds down the No. 3 position. Easton is at No. 4. Ashland despite only two wins is No. 11, Fort Fairfield is No. 13 and LCS/MSSM is No. 16.

Presque Isle 3, Foxcroft Academy 0 — The Presque Isle Wildcats registered their tenth win of the season on Monday by dropping the Foxcroft Academy Ponies by a score of 3-0.

Jake Player had a goal and an assist and Wilder York and Logan Good had the other goals. Cole Richards and Jonah Stephenson had assists and Andrew Kofstad made three saves on five shots.

Presque Isle 2, Old Town 0 — PIHS got back to their winning ways over the weekend dropping Old Town 2-0.

Wilder York provided all the scoring for the Wildcats as they improved to 9-1-1.

Hermon 1, Caribou 0 — At Caribou Saturday, Braddock Deabay scored the game-winning goal on a direct kick with 2:29 left in overtime to lift Hermon past Caribou.

Brendan Dyer made six saves on 10 shots for the 5-4-1 Hawks.

Matt Manter stopped five of 10 shots for the 3-8 Vikings.

Van Buren 2, Ashland 0 — At Van Buren Friday, Eric Laplante scored an unassisted first-half goal to send the Crusaders on their way to victory.

Justin Sytulek scored off a Brandon Bouchard assist in the second half for 6-5 Van Buren. Marc Lajoie made 11 saves on 13 shots.

Royce MacDonald made nine saves on 12 shots for 2-9 Ashland.

Southern Aroostook 3, Central Aroostook 1 — At Dyer Brook Friday, Patrick Goodall and Cody Lassonde each posted a goal and an assist to lead the Warriors past the Panthers of Mars Hill.

Parker Walker also scored for 8-3-1 Southern Aroostook, and Jesse Boulier made six saves on 11 shots.

Dan Brewer scored for Central Aroostook, which is now 6-4-2 on the season. Ross Grass made six saves on 14 shots.

Ellsworth 4, Presque Isle 1 — At Ellsworth Wednesday, it was a battle of the undefeated as the Eagles hosted the Presque Isle Wildcats.

Both squads played to a 1-1 tie in the first half, with Isaac LaJoie providing the goal for Presque Isle.

Early in the second half Ellsworth broke the game open scoring twice within 40 seconds.

Wildcat coach Joe Greaves said he thought his team played pretty well. “Both teams were solid defensively, so it came down to who would capitalize on the other one’s mistakes,” he added.

Presque Isle held a big advantage in shots on goal, attempting 26 to Ellsworth’s nine.

The Wildcats dropped to 8-1-1 on the season.

Washburn 9, Wisdom 2 — The Washburn Beavers on Oct. 4 upped their record to 8-2-1 with a convincing win over the Wisdom Pioneers, 9-2.

Caribou 4, Foxcroft Academy 1 — At Dover-Foxcroft Oct. 4, Nolan McDuffy tallied two goals as the Vikings cruised to victory.

Cody Herbert added a goal for Caribou. Chad Caverhill netted a goal on a corner kick and Sean Barbosala earned the assist. Dean Walker also had an assist.

Caribou’s Matt Manter made seven saves on eight shots.
