    HOULTON – Merton E. Beals, 77, died Oct. 3, 2011, in Houlton. He was born Aug. 26, 1934, in Bridgewater, son of Harold and Hazel (Kinney) Beals.
    Merton was on the Houlton Volunteer Fire Department for several years, and he enjoyed camping, going to Florida, and spending time with his family and friends.
    He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy (Tyrell) Beals of Houlton; four children, Michael and Shelley Beals of Houlton, Rachael and Gary Green of Houlton, Brian and Lisa Beals of Houlton, and David and Shelly Beals of Littleton; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lorraine Cheney of Brunswick and Marilyn McKinnon of Randolph; sister-in-law, Marcella “Dot” Beals of Houlton; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; and one brother, Edwin Beals.
    Friends called 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Houlton Wesleyan Church where the funeral service was held 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Dr. Arthur Myers officiating.
