PRESQUE ISLE — A local businessman who’s devoted many hours volunteering in the community will be honored for his efforts at a dinner downstate later this month.
“For the second year in a row, the Presque Isle Area/Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce will have a leader recognized at the State of Maine Annual Awards Dinner. Floyd Rockholt has been chosen as Volunteer of the Year for 2011,” said Theresa Fowler, the Chamber’s executive director, who was recognized herself at last year’s dinner as Chamber Executive of the Year.
Rockholt, co-owner of Eagle Hill Stamp & Coin, located on Main Street in Presque Isle, has been a member of the local Chamber and other organizations over the years and has devoted much of his time to volunteering.
“Floyd has been in business in downtown Presque Isle for 28 years and has been actively involved in the Chamber of Commerce for all those years. Floyd told me he feels indebted to the community of Presque Isle for the support the community has offered him in the past 30 years,” said Fowler.
Fowler said although Rockholt is a very successful businessperson, at the same time he is extremely generous with his time for others.
“Floyd is active in many organizations in Presque Isle. He serves as treasurer for the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce, is past president of the Presque Isle Rotary Club, serves as chair of the Healthy Aroostook Coalition for Healthy Aroostook and sits on the Presque Isle Development Fund board. Eagle Hill Stamp & Coin sponsors a bowling team on which Floyd bowls in his spare time,” Fowler said.
Rockholt is also a Paul Harris Fellow — a recognition he received for his contributions to the Presque Isle Rotary Club — and was voted Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce Director of the Year by his peers in 2008, noted Fowler.
“In addition to all his formal commitments, Floyd gives willingly of his time and talent to anyone who asks or shows any need,” said Fowler.
