PRESQUE ISLE — A local business is taking steps to raise awareness of the issue of domestic violence, hosting Heels for the Soul as part of the business’s first Octoberfest event.
“We’ve had a wonderful first year at The Crow’s Nest and just wanted to do something to show our appreciation. The month of October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, so we thought a benefit walk for The Hope & Justice Project would be the perfect way to give back,” said Jessica Nason, an employee who’s organizing the walk.
The walk will take place on Saturday, Oct. 8.
“Registration is at 8 a.m. in the back parking lot of The Crow’s Nest. This will serve as our start-finish line. The walk will begin at 9 a.m.,” said Nason.
Participants will leave the restaurant and travel in a circle, returning to the facility where refreshments and prizes await.
“Our route is 1.5 miles. We’ll leave from The Crow’s Nest, head down Maysville Street, turn right onto Griffin Street, turn right onto North Street, then right on Carmichael, then back down Maysville to the restaurant,” she said.
Walkers don’t have to but are asked to wear special footwear for the occasion.
“The walk is called Heels for the Soul. Participants are asked but not required to wear a pair of high-heel shoes,” explained Nason.
There is a minimum pledge of $25 to take part in the walk.
“The two walkers with the most money pledged will receive an extraordinary prize — a Vera Bradley bag. The first 30 people to register will receive a Heels for the Soul T-shirt. No pre-registration is required, just register the morning of the walk,” Nason said.
Registration forms can be picked up at The Crow’s Nest during regular business hours, Tuesday-Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. For more information, contact heelsforthesoul@gmail.com.
“One hundred percent of the money raised will go to The Hope & Justice Project,” said Nason.
