PRESQUE ISLE — A local eatery looking for a special way to mark its first anniversary has come up with a solution, while giving back to the community by raising funds for several area non-profits.

“The Crow’s Nest Restaurant and Event Center is marking its first anniversary by hosting the first annual Harvest/Octoberfest, beginning Friday, Oct. 7 and continuing through Saturday, Oct. 8. We’ll be raising funds for the Pine Tree Chapter of the American Red Cross, Hope & Justice Project, C.A.N.C.E.R. and Catholic Charities, among other fun activities,” said Jan Lucas, event manager.

On Friday, activities kick off with a dance, featuring Portland-based Giraffe Attack.

On Saturday at 9 a.m., Heels for the Soul, a domestic violence awareness walk gets under way, with proceeds going to the Hope & Justice Project.

At 10 a.m. on Saturday, a 10K road race fundraiser takes place, benefiting the Red Cross.

Fun activities continue at 10 a.m. on site, with Vendors with a Voice present for pumpkin painting; face painting will also take place, with other games and activities offered. There will be fun characters present to visit with children. Zumba demonstrations will also take place. Proceeds will benefit C.A.N.C.E.R.

“We’ll also have a potato dessert competition at 2 p.m., a beer tent, fresh food will be offered all day, and there’ll be a jam session,” said Lucas.

At 6 p.m., Catholic Charities of Maine’s Pirate Extravaganza will take place. A flashback dance party will be held at 9 p.m., with KC & Co. presenting music from the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s.

“Come dressed to win prizes,” said Lucas.

“This will be a harvest festival weekend full of fun festivities,” Lucas said.
