MARS HILL – Lois M. McCrea, 84, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, at the Aroostook Health Center in Mars Hill, with family at her side. She was born March 19, 1927, in Mars Hill, one of five children born to Samuel and Nettie (Bell) Townsend.
Lois was a devoted stay at home mom until her four children were in school. She then started her career as a bank teller for Fleet Blank, then worked as a dental assistant for Drs. Virgie and Tarbell in their Mars Hill office. She finished her career as a CNA at the Aroostook Health Center in Mars Hill where she retired after many years of service. She was a member of the Mars Hill Legion Auxiliary. In 1948, she married Robert McCrea. They were married for 56 years at the time of his death in October of 2004. Lois was a wonderful mom. She enjoyed camping, golfing, cross-stitch, reading, and her Tuesday night poker girlfriends.
She is survived by four children: Peggy and husband, Dean Larrabee of Mars Hill, Judy and husband, Blair Bubar of Blaine, Tom McCrea and wife, Carlene of Columbia Falls, MT, and Robert McCrea and wife Donna of Missoula, MT. Lois dearly loved her four grandchildren: RussAnn Oviatt of Carthage, NY, Darci Bubar of Bangor, Matthew Bubar of Whitefish, MT, and Deedra Cronkite of Victor, NY. She was blessed to have six great-grandchildren: Heather and Hadley Oviatt, Hannah Miller, Gavin and Grady Cronkite, and Ella Rae Bubar. She also leaves behind two special nieces who were very attentive to her: Rhonda Orser and Denise Duncan; and a special brother-in-law, Fred Kelly of North Haven, CT.
In addition to her husband, Robert McCrea, she was predeceased by two sisters: Ruth Pedre and Ellen “Toots” Kelley; and two brothers: Russell and Ronald Townsend.
A graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Walter T. Hansen Library, P.O. Box 1008, Mars Hill, ME 04758.
