PT Greta Hanaway    BANGOR – Greta Avis (Lilley) Hanaway, 79, passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at the Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Maine after a brief illness.
    Greta was born in Houlton, ME, Sept. 8, 1932 to Blanche Victory Lilley and Eben Leroy “Roy” Lilley.
    Greta was the wife of the late Francis “Frank” Joseph Hanaway, and was also preceded in death by her mother, Blanche, her father, Roy, her brother Almon Lilley, and brother-in-law, Grant Prentiss.
    She is survived by her very best friend and companion Charlie Goddard of Millinocket; son, Michael (Pamela) Hanaway of  Martindale; daughters, Barbara Davidson  (Davey) of Jamaica Beach, Texas, Deborah (Gerald) Both of Austin, Mary (Gordon) Morse of Jamaica Beach, Texas, Theresa Hunderup (Barry Simmons), of Jarrell; her sister, Mary (Grant) Prentiss of Enfield, CT; brother, Nathan (Betsy) Lilley of Rochester, NY; sister, Sharon (Mike) Raymond of Houlton; and sister-in-law, Nina (Roger) Lilley of St. Petersburg, FL; seventeen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one on the way.
    Greta is a graduate of Houlton High School (1950) and Farmington State Teachers College, Farmington, ME, where she received a B.S. Degree in Home Economics.
    She began teaching Home Economics at Presque Isle High, Presque Isle.
    While teaching, she met her future husband and Air Force officer Lt. Frank Hanaway “on the ski slopes” of the Sugarloaf Mountain Ski Resort. They were married August 3, 1957 and lived at Loring Air Force Base. In 1959, the Air Force moved Greta and Frank to Bergstrom AFB in Austin, TX where they made their home.  Greta and Frank would soon join the St. Louis Catholic Church family. With Frank in the Air Force, they temporarily left Austin for assignments in Glasgow, MT and Shreveport, LA.  In 1971, the family returned to Austin when Frank retired from the Air Force.
    Greta became a full-time mother in 1958, raising her family. In the early 70s, she began a career in retail management including Joske’s, Frost Brother’s, and Scarbrough’s. After her retirement she was blessed to spend the summers in Maine and winters in Texas with the second love of her life, Charles Goddard.
    Friends were cordially invited to a visitation with the family from four o’clock until six o’clock in the evening, on Sunday, the 2nd of October, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.
    A Funeral Mass was celebrated at ten o’clock in the morning on Monday, the 3rd of October, at St. Louis Catholic Church, 7601 Burnet Road, Austin, Texas. Interment followed in Cook-Walden Memorial Hill Cemetery.
