American Flag ColorPRESQUE ISLE – Ellery Keith Libby passed away peacefully September 30, 2011, at the Presque Isle nursing home with his family by his side. Born July 8, 1926 in Mapleton to Richard and Iva (Carter) Libby; the next to last of ten children.

While attending Mapleton High School, he was drafted, entered the U.S. Navy and served during WWII in the Marshall Islands in the South Pacific. He later graduated from the Aroostook School of Commerce and worked for International Harvester as a bookkeeper and at Sears and W.T. Grant in sales, eventually retiring from Sears in 1991 to spend part of each year in Sebastian, Florida, with his wife.

Applauded for years as the fun-loving master of ceremonies of the annual Mapleton High School Alumni banquet, he was well known for his rakish sense of humor. To his friends and large extended family he will always be remembered for his superior skills in the kitchen.

Ellery is survived by his wife, Alma (Doyen) Libby of Presque Isle and Sebastian, Fla; son, Stewart and wife, Cissy of Presque Isle; daughter, Sandra and husband, Teddy Brewer of Blaine; son, Brent and wife, Bridget of Boston; and daughter, Julie of Rumson, New Jersey and her boyfriend, Ralph Michaud; grandchildren: Rick Briggs, Hollie Brewer-Cushman and Jared Brewer; great-grandchildren: Kayla, Conner and Tucker Briggs, Ella Brewer, and Elizabeth Cushman; and will be remembered as uncle and great-uncle by dozens of nieces and nephews.

Ellery is pre-deceased by all of his siblings, sisters: Lila Berry, Vella Bedell, Arlene McHatten, Thelma Wood, Alda Frank, and Audrey Elliott; and brothers: Lawrence, Ivan and Lloyd as well as his brother-in-law, Willard Doyen.

A reception was held at the Crow’s Nest for family and friends on Sunday. The family requests that anyone wishing to remember Ellery, make a donation to the charity of one’s choice.
