Washburn Troop 177 representative Pam Wilcox presents Rotary President Steve Boddy with a thank-you plaque for the meal the Washburn Rotary Club provided during the recent Fall Camporee hosted by Troop 177.
The Scouts cooked several main dishes and one fabulous dessert over the fire in their cast-iron cauldrons, and Willy Drost supplied his famous homemade rolls.
Guests, Scouts and Rotarians enjoyed the meal and a brief account by Scoutmaster (and Rotarian) Larry Harrison as to what activities the troop had been involved in since the two groups had last met.
The Rotarians look forward to this special event each year and are proud of the work that the Scouts and their leaders do for the community.

Washburn ATV Club
There has been a lot of work and trail improvements the last few months on the trail system. Club members have installed new culverts on a section of the Carson Trail, laid new planks down the middle of the Washburn Trestle, and had the Perham Trail widened with a big bush hog. Langille’s Construction is doing a lot of work on the Perham trail this month by adding culverts, building up needed sections and ditching where needed from the Everette Road to Blackstone Siding.
A contractor has been hired to cut back the bushes on the Perham trail and to do the same on the Crouseville trail; this will be happening sometime this month. The club is planning the rebuilding of the Rest-a-Bit picnic area, that was vandalized over the summer, with a larger canopy and possibly housing two picnic tables. The section of trail from McCain’s to the Washburn Boat Landing is now open.
The club has just added a short trail to the trail system named the Helstrom Trail. This trail gives the people on the North Wade Road access to the Rail Bed Trail. This new trail is located just north of the Rest-a-Bit picnic area on the Perham Trail. Trail users are asked to please stay on the marked trail as this is the only route for the residents that live on the North Wade Road.
The next Club potluck dinner and meeting will be held Wednesday, Oct 5. The potluck starts at 6 p.m. and the meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. On the Agenda: Discuss a date to hold the Land Owner Appreciation Supper, talk about the plans of the new Rest-a-Bit picnic area, see if members would also like to have the Carson Trail widened with the bush cutter after they finish the Crouseville Trail, and last to plan a short Club ride to a local restaurant in Caribou or Presque Isle. For more information, visit the Club’s website at www.washburnatvclub.com or visit the Club on Facebook. If you have any questions, call Club President Roger Hewitt at 455-8315.
