PRESQUE ISLE — Two women were treated Saturday for injuries sustained in a crash at the intersection of the Reach Road and U.S. Route 1.
A TWO-VEHICLE CRASH Sept. 17 at the intersection of the Washburn Road and U.S. Route 1 sent both drivers — identified as Laurie Molton of New Sweden and Gertrude Lovely of Presque Isle — to the hospital for treatment. Pictured are emergency personnel clearing the scene following the accident.
The Presque Isle Police Department received multiple reports around 12:53 p.m. on Sept. 17 of a two-vehicle accident at the intersection north of the Aroostook River bridge. Officer Peter Johnson, PIPD, responded to investigate.
According to Johnson, Gertrude Lovely, 83, of Presque Isle, was coming off the Reach Road and didn’t see a vehicle operated by Laurie Molton, 53, of New Sweden, traveling on U.S. Route 1. Lovely’s sedan collided with Molton’s van at the intersection of the Washburn and Caribou roads.
Molton and Lovely were both transported to The Aroostook Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.
Molton’s minivan was towed by Impact Auto, of Presque Isle. Lovely’s car was removed by Mike Cowett’s Towing Service, of Presque Isle. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage in the crash.
Traffic to and from the Washburn Road was re-routed through the redemption center parking lot, while cars traveling north and south on Route 1 were limited to one lane until emergency personnel could clear the scene.
Assisting Johnson at the scene were Officer Brian McQuarrie, PIPD, and members of the Presque Isle Fire Department.
