PRESQUE ISLE — Local police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the person or persons responsible for an assault that left a Presque Isle man in need of medical attention.

The Presque Isle Police Department were contacted Sept. 14 around 6:27 p.m. by staff at The Aroostook Medical Center who indicated a man had been assaulted and was being treated at the hospital emergency room for injuries he sustained.

Officer Larry Fickett responded to investigate. Fickett interviewed the 20-year-old man about the incident, which reportedly occurred while the man was walking along a section of State Street near Central Drive Park around 4:45 p.m. The injured man’s name is not being released at this time.

According to the police log, the individual was approached by two males who asked him a question, then proceeded to attack him — with one of the men reportedly striking him with what he believed was a crowbar. He told Fickett he was struck several times, including in the side, chest and head. The alleged assailants only stopped when an approaching car scared them off. The man said he was knocked unconscious. When he awoke, he walked to a family member’s home, then to the hospital for treatment.

The man suffered a deep laceration to the right side of his chest that required stitches. The victim could not give a description of his assailants.

Fickett went to the area where the attack occurred but was unable to locate the individuals. Evidence was collected from the man. The case remains open, pending leads.
