Caribou drops match against Ellsworth this past weekend

It was a slow week in boys high school soccer in the region. The number two team in Class D Washburn was idle and Caribou only had one game, a loss over the weekend to Ellsworth.            Summaries of  some of the matches played through Monday are as follows:

Ellsworth 4, Caribou 0 — The Caribou Vikings at home on Saturday matched up with a strong Ellsworth squad. The Eagles jumped out to a quick two goal lead in the first ten minutes and never looked back, notching two more goals for a 4-0 win.

Matt Manter and Cody Herbert combined for four saves on 10 shots for the 1-6 Vikings.

Caribou doesn’t play again until this weekend when they host Old Town High School at 3 p.m.

Madawaska 7, Limestone-MSSM 0 — At Limestone, Ian Lee scored three first-half goals and finished with four to help the Owls improve to 8-0. Matt Deschenes chipped in with a goal and assist for the winners while Aaron Thibeault and Travis Thibeault each added a goal. Don Whetmore notched three assists.

For 1-6-1 Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics, Bret Butler made 14 saves on 21 shots.

Fort Kent 8, Fort Fairfield 0 — At Fort Kent, Abraham Desjardins tallied two goals as the Warriors cruised to their fourth win. Antonio Naranja and Phillip Ouellette each added a goal and an assist for Fort Kent. Josh Caron, Charlie Meadow, Thomas Enerva, and Jacob Morin each chipped in a goal for the Warriors.

Chris Weeks made 5 saves on 26 shots for the 2-6 Fort Fairfield Tigers.

Fort Fairfield gets back to work Thursday at 7 p.m. at Central Aroostook.

Fort Fairfield 1, Katahdin 0 — At Fort Fairfield Wednesday, Jacob Wortman’s goal with 22:06 remaining in regulation gave Fort Fairfield its second win against five losses. Tyler Churchill had the assist.

Chris Weeks made eight saves for the winners.

Van Buren 1, Limestone-MSSM 0 — At Van Buren Tuesday Sept. 13, weather put a halt to a match between the Van Buren Crusaders and Limestone-MSSM Eagles with Van Buren holding a 1-0 lead.
