From the Bunkers: Memories linger

The summer has ended, but the memories linger on at the Houlton Community Golf Course.
Plaques on the wall in the clubhouse have added some new and some familiar names — LouAnn Dwyer and Jerry York as club champions and Harriet Gray and Art Nickel as President’s Club winners.
Other notable memories of the 2011 include Porter Gervais’ great round of 65 to set a competitive course record in the club championship qualifying round. Gabe Goodwin and Dan Peabody winning the Men’s Twilight League trophy, as well as, Bruce Nason and David Grant working with the youngsters to provide future winners. Also, all the ladies in the Twilight League trying to analyze what the game was each week.
The great social activities in the charming atmosphere of the clubhouse during the County Open and the Babe Caron Memorial Member-Guest Tournament … a tribute to the memory of Babe hosted by members of his family, along with many other events.
Thanks to Bob Gray and his crew, the course was never in better condition. Zach Goodwin was well assisted by Paul Madigan, Ben Goodwin, Aaron Peabody, along with Pam and Ray Mailman in the pro shop and service counter. Also, Angie Brewer kept the fresh water coolers on the course.
I personally would like to thank all who put up with me as playing partners— mornings with Darrell McGuire, Dick Gray, Bob Burton and Brad McGuire; Thursday afternoons with Paul Adams, Bob Anderson, Dick York, Dave Moore with John Bushey in reserve; my partner in the Twilight League Brent McGuire, and the pleasure of the last scramble “Golf For A Cause” which we won mostly by the fine play of Marion Collins, Betty Anderson and Bill Brennan.
And finally, thanks to Harriet Gray and Pam Mailman for the information on various Ladies’ League scores and all the members and guests of the Houlton Community Golf Course.
Wherever your live in this great land, if you have enjoyed the wonderful world of golf, you have treasured memories. Cherish them. So, the song has ended, but the melody lingers on.
