FORT FAIRFIELD — Police are advising residents of the latest scam involving a caller requesting the wiring of money.
“An unknown person claiming to be from Jamaica is calling Fort Fairfield residents and telling them they have won $5 million. The caller tells the victim to wire $150 to them and tells them not to say anything to anyone,” said Chief Bill Campbell, Fort Fairfield Police Department. “The caller then says that they will call back in a few hours to tell the victim where to send the money.”
Police were made aware of this latest scam when a resident recently notified them of such a call.
Campbell indicated the department has only received one such complaint.
“The person knew right away that this was a scam and wanted others to be aware of the latest scam in the area. The police department is making the public aware so that they do not become a victim to this criminal activity,” said the chief.
Anyone who thinks they may have been scammed or who has received any of these phone calls is encouraged to call the police department in their local community.
