The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine will host their eighth annual Walk-For-Wishes in Houlton, Thursday, Sept. 22 at the Houlton Civic Center. Registration begins at 5 p.m. and the Walk will kick-off at 6 p.m.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine grants the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. They have fulfilled the dreams and wishes of hundreds of children, including eight in Aroostook County and some from the greater Houlton community. There are four wishes in the process in Aroostook County at this time. The money raised here will help support several of those wishes.

The Maine chapter of the foundation began 19 years ago and to date has given more than 1,000 children throughout Maine a chance to live their dream. The cost of a wish is approximately $6,000.
Mary Beth Fitzpatrick, coordinator of the local Walk-For-Wishes said, “I would like to see the Houlton community hold another successful Walk-For-Wishes. I am asking for your support as a sponsor for this worthy event.”
Fitzpatrick said that the Houlton Lodge of Elks has been a great supporter in the past and has made a commitment to join again as a sponsor.
Consider becoming a team captain by recruiting family, friends and co-workers to work toward a team goal. Everyone is welcome to join and any pledge is appreciated.
Registration forms are available at Daniels’ Florist in Market Square or at Trendsetters located at 92 Bangor Street. If you are unable to participate in the Walk, but would like to contribute monetarily, please contact Fitzpatrick at 532-3142 or send your donation to 3 Sugarloaf Street. One can also contribute online at maine.wish.org. Make checks payable to Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine.
Tickets will also be on sale at the Walk for a special piñata made by Paula Dahlk, whose son Leif was a wish recipient two years ago.
