Caribou Fire Chief Roy Woods reminds area residents of the department’s 9-11 Remembrance Ceremony that will be held in front of the fire station beginning at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 11.
The remembrance ceremony will include the posting of colors by the CFD Color Guard; and an invocation prior to a moment of silence at precisely 8:46 a.m., in recognition of the exact time the first plane flew into the World Trade Center in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001.
Out of respect to those who lost their lives on that tragic day, all traffic will be halted on High Street between 8:46 and 8:51 a.m. Vehicle operators should also consider keeping radios turned down or off while in proximity of this program.
According to Woods, who will speak briefly during this ceremony, remarks will also be offered by members of the Lister/Knowlton VFW and the Henry B. Pratt, Jr. American Legion. Local law enforcement and emergency management personnel will also be in attendance.
“Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend this ceremony,” said Chief Woods, who has extend this invitation to firefighters from other communities.
The ceremony will conclude with the Presentation of Arms, Pledge of Allegiance and the playing of “Taps.”
Over the 10 years since Sept. 11, 2001, many things have changed in regard to our way of life, but the one thing that will never change is the loss of life that occurred as a result of that heinous act.
So whether one chooses to attend this Remembrance Ceremony on Sunday at the Caribou Fire Station, or perhaps take a few minutes to personally reflect on that day, we should all keep in mind that we can make that decision, because we have the “freedom” to make our own choices.
