GILLESPIE, Edward F., 87, PRESQUE ISLE, at Portland, September 4, 2011. Friends may call 6-8 p.m., Thursday, at the Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Friday, September 9, at St. Mary’s Parish of the Precious Blood, Presque Isle. Arrangements are in the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Homes, Presque Isle.

PRESQUE ISLE – Edward F. Gillespie, 87, died Sunday morning, September 4, 2011, at a Portland hospital. He was born on February 15, 1924, in Grand Falls, N.B., Canada, the son of George E. and Elizabeth (Kavanaugh) Gillespie.

Ed worked as a truck driver for Coles Express Co. for many years. He was a lifetime 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Assembly #363 in Presque Isle. Ed enjoyed spending time at camp and in the woods in his earlier years; late years, he enjoyed going to garage sales. He did volunteer work at Catholic Charities of Maine.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Kearly) Gillespie of Presque Isle; a son, Jerry Gillespie and his wife, Donna of Fort McCoy, FL; a step-daughter, Suzanne Hobbs and her husband, Tim of Presque Isle; a step-son, Mark Kearly and his companion, Angel of Easton; a brother, Stephen Gillespie of London, Ontario; six sisters: Bertha Kuntz of Alberta, Canada, Mary E. Hunter of Scarborough, Anne Schopf of New Brunswick, NJ, Agnes Rosteski of Birch River, Manitoba, Joan Tweedie of Westfield, and Marie Finlayson of Ancaster, Ontario; two grandchildren: Jason Gillespie and his wife, Crystal, and David Gillespie and his wife, Annie; four great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren: Caleb and Rachel Hobbs; several nieces and nephews.

Ed was predeceased by his first wife, Norma (Duncan) Gillespie; four brothers: Earlin, Bernard, Joseph, and John Gillespie; and two sisters: Rita Sullivan and May Bishop.

Friends may call 6-8 p.m., Thursday, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Friday, September 9, at St. Mary’s Parish of the Precious Blood, Presque Isle, with the Very Rev. Jean Paul LaBrie celebrant. Interment will be at North Main St. Catholic Cemetery, Presque Isle. Donations may be made in his memory to American Diabetes Assn., 163 Lancaster Street, Portland, ME 04101.
