The high school golf season in Aroostook County is under way, and the Fort Fairfield Tigers are off to a strong start.

Meghan Flanigan of Limestone-MSSM addresses the ball on the first tee at the Limestone Country Club. Flanigan shot a 44 to lead the Eagles in their match against Fort Fairfield and Ashland.
The Tigers hosted Ashland and Hodgdon Monday, scoring 186 points to get past both Ashland (222) and Hodgdon (227).
Freshman Robbie Watson came in with a 44 on the afternoon to lead FF, which remained undefeated on the season. Landon Towle’s 45, Billy Weissman’s 48 and Dereck Dufour’s 49 were all part of the Tigers’ successful day on their home course at Aroostook Valley Country Club.
Ashland received solid rounds from both Mark Corella, who carded a 46, and Dylan Cyr-Cormier, with a 47. Cody Blair had a 64 and Marc Chasse a 65 for the Hornets.
Hodgdon’s Chris Wallace took medalist honors with a 42.

Coach Larry Gardner’s squad also won its opening home match played Aug. 18, defeating Central Aroostook in stroke play, 175-199. Watson began his varsity career in impressive fashion by shooting even-par 36 at Aroostook Valley Country Club to lead the Tigers.
On Thursday, Ashland and Fort Fairfield both ventured to Limestone Country Club for a match hosted by the Eagles. Watson shot a 48 to lead the Tigers, which topped LCS/MSSM in match play, 4-1. Weissman had a 51, Brandon Clark a 52, Dufour a 57 and Towle a 58 for Fort Fairfield.
In the competition between Limestone/MSSM and Ashland, coach Shari Ward’s Hornets took all five match points. Corella of Ashland was the medalist with a 41. Royce MacDonald followed with a 52, while the other Hornet golfers were Chasse (63), Blair (64) and Amos Ward (68).
Limestone/MSSM’s Meghan Flanagin carded a 44 on the afternoon. Tyler Morgan shot a 59 and Ellyzabeth Bencivenga a 79 for coach Tom Albert’s squad.
