Presque Isle Preseason Invitational Soccer Tournament
PRESQUE ISLE — The Presque Isle Wildcats boys and girls soccer teams made a clean sweep of the weekend by winning the 19th annual Presque Isle Invitational preseason tournament championships at the Gerhrig T. Johnson Athletic Complex.

The two-day tournament featured seven Aroostook County schools: Presque Isle, Caribou, Ashland, Fort Kent, Van Buren, Madawaska and Fort Fairfield. Games are not regulation length, 25 minutes running time for pool-play and 30 minutes for the championship matches.
The Presque Isle Lady Wildcats took on Caribou in the final on Saturday and won 2-1.
Presque Isle took a 1-0 lead with 1:48 left in the first half when Kayla Richards headed Chandler Guerrette’s cross from the right wing inside the far goalpost.
Shay Brown extended the Wildcats’ lead to 2-0 lead with a goal with 9:16 left in the second half.
Olivia Sleeper scored Caribou’s lone goal on an assist from Paige Small.
In the boys’ final Presque Isle and Madawaska squared off. The Wildcats were tough on defense and won 2-0. Presque Isle did not allow a goal in seven matches during the tournament.

This tournament serves as an unofficial kick-off to the soccer season. It’s designed to give teams a little experience before the regular season begins, but also to get soccer officials back into game shape.
