The official word on Loring implosion

To the editor:

This past weekend an attempt was made to implode the former central heat plant at Loring. Perhaps as a testimony to USAF Cold War bomb-resistant structural design, after the blast the 5,000-ton steel building had dropped only about 18 feet, got hung up, and will need to be pulled down to finish the demolition job.

The building owners would like to thank the staff of the Loring Development Authority, the Limestone Police and Fire Departments and the contractor, Engineered Products Co., Inc. of Portland, for their professionalism and concern for public safety.

We look forward to working with these good people as we move through the demolition process to the redevelopment of energy infrastructure at the Loring Commerce Center.
